MONEY TIP
Habits like smoking, regular drinking, and gambling may be hurting you more than you know. The average smoker spends over $2,000/year on cigarettes. In many states, a single pack is in the double digits, so it would cost a lot more, depending on how much you smoke. The same cost analysis applies to dip, vaping, e-cigs, Zyn, etc. Drinking is no different. It likely costs you more than you think. Now that we’re at the beginning of a new year, it’s time to reconsider some bad habits and vices.
O
OPPORTUNITY
If you’re looking for a new car, know your resources. Kelly Blue Book is the best for getting a quick price on a vehicle. It’s a sound bargaining chip if you’re looking for a private-party car (which you should be).
M
MINIMALISM TIP
Try the “One In, One Out” rule when approaching minimalism. For every new item you bring into your space, let go of one you no longer use. This keeps clutter from creeping back and helps you stay intentional about what you allow into your life.

ESSENTIAL READING
How to Be Rich by Andy Stanley challenges the conventional pursuit of wealth by redefining what it means to be rich. Stanley posits that many people, particularly in affluent societies, are wealthier than they perceive but lack the awareness to manage their riches effectively. Drawing inspiration from 1 Timothy 6:18, he encourages readers to “do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” The book emphasizes that true wealth is measured not by accumulation but by generosity and the positive impact one can make with their resources. Stanley provides practical guidance on how to shift focus from mere possession to purposeful action, urging individuals to recognize their blessings and use them to benefit others. This perspective fosters a sense of responsibility and fulfillment, aligning material wealth with spiritual and communal well-being.
N
NOTION
Along with emotional intelligence, stress management is one of the most important things your child can learn. New American Psychological Association studies show that kids are more stressed than ever, and it’s getting worse. Another APA study revealed that teens are more stressed than adults. Even worse, suicide rates for teens are soaring, up 70% for white children between 10 and 17, and 77% for black children, even though black children typically commit suicide at a lower rate than white. There’s obviously a growing problem, and stress, whether over catastrophic or mere “common” issues, is the cause. Stress and anxiety hit kids before they even know what’s going on. This could lead to signs of depression at younger ages than ever. There are plenty of techniques and ways you can help.

TRAVEL TIP
When I fly into another country, whether traveling for work or pleasure, the first thing I do is go find a cheap SIM card at the airport. It seems like the US is still the most expensive place to do this, but in most other countries, you can get one for less than $20; this way, you only get it when you need it. There’s no reason to pay expensive prices to have an international phone plan unless you’re out of the country every month.
S
SCRIPTURE
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalm 139:23-24
Closing Question
Are you spending your free time with as much efficacy as possible? That doesn’t mean efficiently or productively, but rather, are you getting what you want from your free time, or is it just kind of passing by?
